Form Submission Webhooks: A Delivery Checklist
A webhook sends an HTTP request to a receiving endpoint when an event occurs. For a form workflow, that endpoint can pass a submission to an internal service or queue. The receiving application must be ready to validate, process, and monitor the request.
Plan the receiver first
- Use an HTTPS endpoint you control and protect it with an authentication method supported by both sides. Do not put credentials in a URL.
- Check the actual payload and authentication options in your integration configuration. Do not assume another vendor's signature format applies to Formify.
- Accept only the fields your workflow needs. Avoid printing complete submissions or uploaded files in application logs.
- Return an appropriate success response only after you have accepted the work. For slow processing, consider storing the work safely and processing it asynchronously.
- Design for duplicates and interruptions. Use a stable identifier if the sender provides one; otherwise choose a deduplication strategy appropriate to your data.
GitHub's webhook best practices illustrate these general receiver concerns. Its headers and timeout are specific to GitHub and should not be assumed to describe Formify.
Test the whole path
- Connect the endpoint in Formify and publish a test form.
- Submit fictional, non-sensitive data once.
- Confirm the response appears in Formify and that the receiver accepted the corresponding request.
- Check the downstream destination, such as your queue or database, for one completed result.
- Test an endpoint failure in a safe environment. Establish how your team detects and recovers a missed delivery; do not assume automatic retries or exactly-once delivery without verifying them.
If Formify recorded the response but your destination did not, inspect the connection settings and receiver logs without exposing payloads. If the response itself is absent, investigate the form submission first. See Formify integrations and form routing workflows.
FAQ
Does a webhook guarantee delivery?
No. Network or receiver failures can interrupt delivery. Confirm the sender's retry behavior and keep a recovery process for missed events.
